It's Coming...

The Huntsville Museum of Art exhibit of my paintings is coming soon. Opening February 28 through June 14. A gallery walk with the artist and reception will be held Sunday March 1 from 2 to 4 pm. Scott is excitedly finishing frames (my words) and I look forward to seeing this body of work up on white walls in a great big gallery.

No More Kid Class

After over ten years of teaching kids at Red Dot I (Dori) am drawing - no pun intended - this adventure to a close. I have opened another adult class (Thursday afternoon, 12:30 to 2:30) for the continuing and growing popularity of my adult classes. I will miss being around the wisdom and unfettered creativity of little ones.

Dori in New Ceramics Book

Dori's article about the ceramic work of artist Chris Gryder appears yet again in "Surface Decoration Techniques," a thorough and gorgeously illustrated book compiled by Ceramics Art Daily. Check it out HERE.

Party Animals

My newest paintings, Party Animals, will be for sale at our holiday opening this Friday. They are small (4" x 9") and affordable! Click thumbnails below to see all images.

Plates of Food in Kid Class

I asked the kids to paint a plate of food that made them hungry. (Each one made me hungry!) with acrylic on canvas they came up with these fabulous pieces. **Red Dot Kid Class, 4:30-5:30 on Thursdays. Click for more images.

Kids Art Inspired by Dori's Paintings

IMG_2191.jpg

This week's project in Red Dot kid class involved cut paper, goggly eyes, and other materials to do an imitation of Dori's dress-up animal paintings. As usual the kids' creativity was off the charts.

Dori is working on new small paintings loosely inspired by historical Japanese paintings of animals. Images coming soon. There should be a nice selection of them at the November holiday show at Red Dot.

Good Ole Alabama Folk School

Dori spent this past weekend at the Alabama Folk School in Nauvoo, Alabama taking a guitar workshop from the incredible Herb Trotman. She came away with a wealth of music theory, some new skills to practice, and very sore fingers.

During her regular visits to the Alabama Folk School she take time to hike, sit in rockers and visit, photographs for her paintings, peeks in on the visual artists, and enjoys the concerts and jam sessions that arise among the musicians. She's on the advisory board, too, and recommends y'all sign up for one of the best weekends you can have. They offer visual art, music, and writing workshops.

DECADE Opening

I passed around my camera to guests at the opening of DECADE, our 10th anniversary student/teacher exhibit. They documented the event well and creatively.

Pre-Show Sales

Three of Dori's paintings sold this week, in anticipation of the upcoming DECADE exhibit. Dori likes this. CLICK BELOW FOR SLIDE SHOW.

Frames in the Making

Scott is preparing frames for my work in his makeshift wood shop: our carport. We're gearing up for DECADE, which opens at Red Dot this Saturday.

It's Coming. Get Ready.

Only a week away! Join us for our 10th Anniversary Celebration at the opening reception of DECADE, our Student/Teacher Exhibit. Saturday, September 6 from 5-8 pm. Thank you for 10 happy years in Birmingham!

Student Paintings Finished This Week

Several painting students finished work this week. A lot of hard work went into these pieces, as you can see.
