Scroll right for images of new work by oil painters in Dori's classes. There are many more paintings to post, so check back. You can always look at the student work on the website to see more.

A Banner Day

My banner has gone up at the Huntsville Museum of Art. The moment I've been waiting for. Below, an image of the exhibit inside.

New Thursday Class Filling Fast

by Kay Lindsey

by Kay Lindsey

Dori's newly opened Thursday afternoon class is almost full. Opening a new class has offered more options for students, and taken the pressure off other classes that were always at capacity. Already the new group has a warm and lively personality, similar but different from the other classes.

"Hearth" by Annabelle DeCamillis. Winner of the Scholastic National Silver with Distinction Award

Two new classes have been added or scheduled at Red Dot recently. Due to high demand, Dori DeCamillis has added another painting and drawing class on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30. And for the first time, Annabelle DeCamillis will be teaching a 10 week oil painting portrait class on Mondays from 12:30 to 2:30 starting May 25th. Look for more info on this exciting, long-requested class by Annabelle.

Annabelle Wins UAB Award

Red Dot associate Annabelle DeCamillis won an award at the UAB Juried Student Exhibition on March 13th, her birthday. Her piece involves a painted handmade dress, a painting, and a photograph, all of her bathroom at home.

Museum Exhibit Opens

Red Dot owner Dori DeCamillis give a gallery talk at the opening of her exhibit at Huntsville Museum of Art. The show of 27 paintings will be on display until June 14, 2015.

Strokes: Paintings by Pat Conrad

Red Dot Gallery presents “Strokes,” an exhibit of oil paintings by longtime Red Dot student and friend, Pat Conrad. The exhibit opens March 7 and runs through May 3, 2015. An opening reception will be held Saturday, March 7 from 5 to 8 pm. Pat has been inspiring other students at Red Dot with her expressive paintings for seven years. Her wide range of subject matter is tied together by her interests: people, places, and imagery she loves. This is her first solo exhibit.

It's Coming...

The Huntsville Museum of Art exhibit of my paintings is coming soon. Opening February 28 through June 14. A gallery walk with the artist and reception will be held Sunday March 1 from 2 to 4 pm. Scott is excitedly finishing frames (my words) and I look forward to seeing this body of work up on white walls in a great big gallery.

No More Kid Class

After over ten years of teaching kids at Red Dot I (Dori) am drawing - no pun intended - this adventure to a close. I have opened another adult class (Thursday afternoon, 12:30 to 2:30) for the continuing and growing popularity of my adult classes. I will miss being around the wisdom and unfettered creativity of little ones.

Dori in New Ceramics Book

Dori's article about the ceramic work of artist Chris Gryder appears yet again in "Surface Decoration Techniques," a thorough and gorgeously illustrated book compiled by Ceramics Art Daily. Check it out HERE.

Party Animals

My newest paintings, Party Animals, will be for sale at our holiday opening this Friday. They are small (4" x 9") and affordable! Click thumbnails below to see all images.

Plates of Food in Kid Class

I asked the kids to paint a plate of food that made them hungry. (Each one made me hungry!) with acrylic on canvas they came up with these fabulous pieces. **Red Dot Kid Class, 4:30-5:30 on Thursdays. Click for more images.

Kids Art Inspired by Dori's Paintings

IMG_2191.jpg

This week's project in Red Dot kid class involved cut paper, goggly eyes, and other materials to do an imitation of Dori's dress-up animal paintings. As usual the kids' creativity was off the charts.
