The Grammar of Ornament

This series was completed between 2002 and 2010.. After a dozen years of painting tiny, realistic images of everyday life I wanted a dramatic change. The paintings are larger, and are influenced by patterns from different cultures throughout history. The ceramic tiles are handmade by me and inlaid into the wood panels. The rest of the piece, including the copper panel in the center, is painted in oils.
