Painting Styles Workshops
Expand on your current painting methods or influence your current style. It’s a fun day of learning about historic painting movements and branching out into new territory with your strokes, color, and compositions.
Description
We will explore popular painting styles through a short art history lesson followed by a practice in each of the methods highlighted. Painters of all skill levels are welcome, and no special knowledge or experience is required. Most Red Dot painters are developing skills at Realism, and this is a chance to try out ways of painting that are more interpretive and less beholden to subject matter.
Make no mistake. Excellence in these new styles is not guaranteed or even likely. This is a quick introduction, with an invitation to explore the methods in more depth in the future.
Prerequisite: Must have completed the three beginner paintings in Dori DeCamillis’s regular classes
Required Supplies
For Red Dot students who’ve finished at least 3 paintings in regular painting class. The following supplies can be purchased at Red Dot or in local stores or online. In addition to the usual supplies used by Red Dot painters, the workshop requires a pad of CAN-TONE canvases (provided for $15) and fresh brushes including detail sizes. Bring a fairly complete palette of non-student grade paints. The usual medium and thinner are expected. Students will receive instructions for gathering images a couple weeks before the workshop. Please direct questions to dori@reddotgallery.com.
Subject Matter
You can choose from selected images on the Image Reference Page or bring your own. Keep in mind you’ll want images that lend themselves to this task.
Schedule
February 15, 2025 is the next workshop.
